===== From sshaw@fas.harvard.edu: The textures that you used for the stone in this image makes it hard to figure out. The wavy, reflective surface looks more like liquid than stone, and for me it makes it hard to make out the edges of objects. ===== From sammy@cube.net: With better textures and materials, this could have been rahter good. But as it is , all the walls have an 'oily' look, and are very uniform. ===== From Martin.Magnusson.7121@student.uu.se: An extra light source at the camera's location, or radiosity, would have made the scen look much less flat, I think. ===== From jerry@hoboes.com: There is a lot of weird stuff going on with your textures. They really throw the perspective off on the buildings. Perhaps not quite so shiny or swirly? I would also recommend working on the edges between each object (between the buildings and the land, for instance). ===== From jull43@ij.net: I don't see how ruins of today can represent history. ===== From bsieker@techfak.uni-bielefeld.de: The lens flares are nice, and the modelling may be quite adaequate, but the materials really do not resemble anything used for building even remotely. A very flat matte surface would have been _much_ better, than unimaginatively using some of POV's textures and adding reflectiveness. Have you ever seen ruins that reflect their surroundings like highly polished marble? I understand that you probably raised ambient and reflective coefficients of the materials to make them visible, akthough they are not lit by the main light source, but this is the Wrong Thing to do. Rather, spend some hours trying to figure out where to place additional lights to subtly light up the objects inthe foreground. A distant light at the camera position might be good start, as well as using the "radiosity" feature to simulate diffuse interreflections. Take a look at as many source files from other artists as you can get. ===== From karl@pemail.net: The buildings have a lot of reflections on them that don't look right ===== From jaime@ctav.es: ...mmm... spanish? where? Well, for the hard sun, it must be spain! :) But why wall are reflecting? ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: A little heavy on the sun glare. And the highly reflective textures are unusual, especially for "ruins". Would a rough/rocky texture look better?. ===== From ethelm@bigfoot.com: Nice idea. Sky and sun are good. The image does seem a bit flat, needs something to make it more three dimensional. ===== From 101741.541@compuserve.com: I would have like to know what _happened_ at this place. Be more careful with the textures ! Walls must not be reflective and large-bumpy ! ===== From bobfranke@halcyon.com: A good start but a pretty loose connection with the topic. Try experimenting with the textures included with POV for starters.
