===== From sshaw@fas.harvard.edu: Good work on the reality element, generating the mountain from USGS data. I see how the modern view of the mountain reminds us of the history, but I would have rather seen a picture of that history; perhaps the moutain erupting, or a view of the area immediately after the event. Is the tree in the foreground meant as a reminder of the destruction of flora by the eruption? If so, why is it brown rather than ashen? ===== From jerry@hoboes.com: Why do the clouds form a rising sun pattern behind the volcano? Nice use of focal blur. ===== From gregj56590@aol.com: Cool effect. Prety cool theme. ===== From jull43@ij.net: History? This appears to be the present and that is what your description indicates. That makes it the present, not history. Sorry. The image is excellent. The scores are only to keep it out of the competative rage for those who are on topic. ===== From bsieker@techfak.uni-bielefeld.de: I think the sky is much too greenish. but otherwise a quite nic image. Good focal blur in the foreground. ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: Interesting juxtaposition. Mountain heightfield looks a little patchy. ===== From ethelm@bigfoot.com: An original idea, quite effective. ===== From 101741.541@compuserve.com: The fuzzy ambience is interesting, tough the colors aren't the best possible in that situation (especially sky). ===== From bobfranke@halcyon.com: Gee, you did the same as I. You also got tired of just 8- bit conversions for the DEM files and wrote your own program. I checked your code and it is very similar to mine. I gave extra tech points for the effort. Now, about the image. Although the foreground tree is out of focus I still find it distracting. I think it would be better if placed even more off center. Also the colors seem to washed out on my monitor. You have zoomed in really close on the heightfield, try adding more texture to the landscape to hide the triangles. Also you are a bit weak on the topic. Showing the eruption would nail it right on topic. This is a good start, just a little more work could make this a first rate image. ===== From r@pluto.icom-solutions.com: Notable for originality, textures
