TITLE: Ben Franklin's Kite NAME: Kyle Stamper + Zeger Knaepen + Philippe Gibone COUNTRY: USA + Belgium + France EMAIL: joekyle@geocities.com + zeger_knaepen@hotmail.com + TOPIC: History COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: franklin.jpg RENDERER USED: PovRay 3.1e TOOLS USED: HLA, Moray, 3dWin IMAGE DESCRIPTION: When Benjamin Franklin flew his kite in 1752, he wanted to know if lightning was electricity. He risked his life to find out that it is. We wanted to recapture that stormy night that led to the discovery of the power source that reshaped and improved our world in so many ways. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Philippe modelled and textured the clocktower while Kyle made a kite, a hand (the original point of view was as seen from Franklin's eyes) and the lightning. Zeger added a tree and a sky, but because he wasn't happy with the result, he repositioned all the objects, added some height_fields (made in HLA), used a different tree macro(and placed more trees), improved the kite and clocktower, and added Franklin. Zeger began to work on this new scene-setup about 1 week before we had to submit it. Kyle: kite, lightning, ideas, original scene-setup, first test-renders Philippe: clocktowerdesign and -modelling, ideas Zeger: background (landscape, sky and trees), Franklin, scene-setup, ideas, final render May the best win.
