TITLE: POV-Ray, Revealed! NAME: Alex Vandiver EMAIL: vandiver@tiac.net TOPIC: Unbelievable COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: pov.jpg ZIPFILE: pov.zip RENDERER USED: Superpatch'd POV-Ray 3.1e TOOLS USED: sPatch, Rhino RENDER TIME: HARDWARE USED: Pentium II 400 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Late at night before the IRTC deadline, my coffee had long grown stagnant. All of the renders were coming out completely black. It was impossible. My eyes feverishly glued to the computer screen, I felt a dawning realization. This, combined with the fact that there was *NO* way that a freeware renderer could be so good, tipped me off. Suddenly suspicous, I wielded my screwdrivers and tore the monitor apart, to discover.. what? The residence and office of P. Owevee; Ray P. Owevee, in fact. The secret conspiracy of the POV-Ray team was at long last revealed.. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: With the exception of the actual monitor body, most of the scene is pure CSG. The monitor itself was modelled in Rhino. Things like the papers and couch were made in sPatch. The rug inside the monitor is an image of the classic rendered reflective sphere over a checkered plane. Other objects were shamelessly stolen and modified from the POV Objects Collection; The office table, chair, and cabinet were Manfred Agne's, and the hatrack was Ken Tyler's. If you look closely at the images on the papers strewn across the desk, they are copies of old IRTC winners.
