TITLE: Cognitive Horror NAME: Marlo Steed COUNTRY: Canada EMAIL: marlo.steed@uleth.ca WEBPAGE: http://www.edu.uleth.ca/faculty/members/steed/MarloSteed.html TOPIC: Horror COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: steed.jpg RENDERER USED: Strata Studio Pro 2.5.3 TOOLS USED: Strata StudioPro, Claycape 3D RENDER TIME: 5 minutes HARDWARE USED: Mac PowerPC G3 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: It is all in the mind.... fear, horror, and dread that is. I purposely left the scene fairly void of horrific objects because it not what see that elicits fear it is what you can't see. To that end I attempted to create the anticipation or the aftermath of something horrific. Your imagination can do the rest. I sent many hours experimenting with lights to get the affect I was after. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The pillars were created by Clayscape 3D by twisting and tapering a cube, the resulting object was imported into Strata Studio Pro. A Fog was applied to the scene. The flashlight had a spotlight attached to it and a omni light was placed in the middle of the scene. The textures for the burnt paper and old english font, bump maps, and transparency maps were created in Painter using its special affects.
