TITLE: Cave Garden NAME: Stephen Lumini COUNTRY: Canada EMAIL: s_lumini@hotmail.com WEBPAGE: n/a TOPIC: Garden COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: cave.jpg RENDERER USED: 3ds Max 3.1 TOOLS USED: 3ds Max, Paint Shop Pro 6 RENDER TIME: just under 2 hours HARDWARE USED: P2 400 w 128 Meg of Ram IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Brilliant sunshine fills the cave with the golden glow of growing light. The plants and creatures which shelter in the mouth of this cave pass another idyllic day. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Using the 3ds ability to load an image as the background of a wireframe window, I traced the butterfly wings to get a realistic shape. Modelling flowers are actually quite easy, a simple bezier patch with some slight beds. I spent at least half my time in PSP making the wings, and petals. The grass is real - in the sense that there is over 10,000 individual blades. I could not come up with a better way of making it look real, and I have a powerful enough machine so why not. I would have liked some more time for this picture - I wanted everything covered with life - I wanted vines on the ceiling and more bugs and caterpillars - ah well maybe in Jan. I am proudest of the yellow butterfly. Which is also where I put my signature.
