TITLE: Marstown GH8 NAME: Markus Borbely COUNTRY: Sweden EMAIL: d95mbo@efd.lth.se WEBPAGE: http://www.efd.lth.se/~d95mbo/ TOPIC: Gardens COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: marstown.jpg RENDERER USED: 3dstudio MAX 3.0 RENDER TIME: 12 minutes HARDWARE USED: Celeron 400, 128Mb RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: This is supposed to look like a martian landscape with a human colony greenhouse. That is right, GH is for greenhouse. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Ground: two planes with displacementmaps. One of them, the one with the rough surface, is scaled up to emerge out of the sand. Rocks: there are two scatter objects, one large with few rocks, and one small with 800 small rocks. They all use the sand as the distributionobject so they are positioned correctly right away. The green stuff: are really grass. But they look funny, a bit like bushes when I turned on raytracing. Anyway, they are scatter objects. The pots are bevel profile objects. Really simple. Theese are the ones that really boosts the polygon count in the scene. All and all it was about 360.000 polygons in the scene. Pipes: only simple lofted objects where the path was drawn along the terrain. There are 6 lights in the scene. Four of them visible. The other two is an upcoming sun (or whatever). One of them lights the entire scene excepts the glass sphere. The other one oposite. So that the glass can be lightened without casting any shadows.
