TITLE: The lost brooch NAME: Jessica Bushnaq COUNTRY: Germany EMAIL: abdalla.bushnaq@d.kamp.net TOPIC: Sea COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: brooch.jpg RENDERER USED: povray 3.1g TOOLS USED: painting for the canal RENDER TIME: HARDWARE USED: Athlon 800 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A lost brooch in the water, the reflection of a kite on the water surface, bubbles floating on the water. The waves are engraved in the sand, the water is nearly smooth. (Yes, this is often the case on the shore, I saw it when I was there in the summer, my husband nearly did not believe me-and he was there to) Anybody knowing the lithography "Three Worlds" from Escher? There it is a fish in the water, leafs on the water surface and the reflection of trees in the pond. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The sand is a heightfield, created as a grayfield with povray (gradient and a little turbulence), then the canal was painted with a paint program. The kite has a image-map texture (also created with povray). The texture of the sand is a layered texture with bozo pigments and normals, created in a while loop. I got this technic from Andrew Clinton who gives REALLY good tips on his Povray pages. The gems on the brooch are taken from the gems.inc file (povray main page, pov files, includes), I was not able to find out who created this file. The light was a little tricky. If I placed the light under the kite, it did not look good. If I placed it above, the kites reflection went nearly black. In the end, I tampered with the ambient of the kite. The image maps are a little to large and the code is MUCH to mixed up to send with this. However, should anybody be interested, send me an email and I send whatever you are intersted in. (Could take a little while, depends on how often the mother of a four year old looks for her mails).
