===== From digitalburn@totalise.co.uk: Artistically good. The cliff is not quite right - too rounded for this height I think... needs more detail. ===== From darwallace@earthlink.net: Advice #1. You would have gained from Gilles Tran's Maketree macro. Advice #2. To make a realistic heightfield, make a plane with a grayscale pattern (granite and bozo work well), make an image with the camera pointing down at it, and then use the result as an image map for the heightfield. ===== From pbourke@swin.edu.au: Love it, can find no fault. The red tinge to the sky and water, the bluish mist, the quickly rising land. Lovely reflections of the ship. ===== From panthus@xtra.co.nz: Nice composition, keep going on this picture and try out different things with one element (sky, water, cliffs, lights). Keep trying things until you're happy and code isn't that daunting, have a look at other people's and try and puzzle out how they did it. ===== From dvnss@mega.ist.utl.pt: I was trying to make exactly this image, but I could't find the right galleon! Good composing... ===== From marlo.steed@uleth.ca: Nice atmopsheric affects. The water looks great. The scene needed something in the forground... ===== From tony@j4tb.com: A well composed image. I particularly like the reflection of the sky in the water. Your people on the boat are insignificant to my vote as the boat is too far to see them anyway. The picture may be simple but honestly I like it just the way it is. ===== From bbowen@cswnet.com: Looks like you've got a good start to me. Scene composition is almost as hard as modelling and lighting. Your's looks alright as does your use of color. The rest will come with practice. ===== From angelaperry@webcombo.net: This picture is lovely. Although simple, the picture evokes the sea very nicely, using a well-designed ship and a lovely sunset. If you've only been working for four months and you can do that, I need to meet you :-) ~A. Perry ===== From Alain.Culos@bigfoot.com: Why would the sail be inflated if the Galeon is supposedly stationnary ? The sky does not buy me. Nice ship though. ===== From jrcsurvey@aol.com: It's a very nicely composed picture. You brought a few simple elements toge= ther effectively. ===== From StephenF@whoever.com: The galleon looks very nice, especially from a distance. Not sure about the choice of pink for the cloud color. The cliffs in the background look unnaturally smooth, although the smaller land masses look good. I think a different color would have worked better for the fog... the white doesn't mix with the other colors as well as it should. ===== From sjlen@ndirect.co.uk: The fog and the land looks good, the water could do with being a bit mroe choppy. Great work for a first entry. ===== From mar@physics.usyd.edu.au: Another beautiful effort from a relative beginner. I think you have the water, sky, mountains, and fog down - just work on your own modelling and you should have a good set of skills. ===== From delfeld@mailcity.com: Good use of directional lines to make the tiny galleon the focus of the scene. I don't think even Gilles Trans is Gilles Trans. . . or maybe he just does what is in everyone to do. Keep working on effective stories, stories for everything in the image, _interesting_ stories, and (espeically) creating an effective relationship between the stories and the images. Also, the images must be interesting and wonderful on their own. That is, if you want to be Gilles Trans. But it's also nice to see what you can do. (I like Miles Davis's and John Coltrane's music, though I think Mr. Daivs is an ass). Study George Braques work (a painter who worked with Picasso) to find some interesting compositional ideas.
