===== From digitalburn@totalise.co.uk: like the glowing bits... ===== From darwallace@earthlink.net: Try a macro which generates a blob object include file with random components. You are looking for an effect similar to the splash in zee.jpg in this competition. Your lava material map needs more turbulence. ===== From pbourke@swin.edu.au: Good idea and the "red" spots are nice and strong. Where's the sense of steam? ===== From panthus@xtra.co.nz: Ambitious idea. ===== From dvnss@mega.ist.utl.pt: Not a very convincing eruption. ===== From marlo.steed@uleth.ca: Interesting topic. Would there be all kinds of phizzing and air bubbling up where the water is boiling? ===== From tony@j4tb.com: Wow! You took on quite a challenge there. The glow of the lava is really cool. It certainly is dark enough to be underwater. I can see your frustration with the spheres I am not sure what to do with them. The only thing that would be nice to add is a sense of scale. ===== From frepe@ifm.liu.se: The lightning doesn't match with the glow from the lava. But _xcept for the steam it looks quite well. ===== From bbowen@cswnet.com: I wouldn't know real underwater steam if it burned me. This is very interesting visually. Clever trick with the lit lava. ===== From alun.thomas@convergys.com: I think your compressed steam is almost there. Instead of the red centered blobs that you have rising up, try making them white/light grey ? ===== From Alain.Culos@bigfoot.com: Pity the steam cloud as you say does not render well. I like the lighting of the rest of the scene. ===== From husakm@vscht.cz: Nice idea but technicaly not very good done ... THe central part looks more like some strange animal ... ===== From sjlen@ndirect.co.uk: This is a beautiful image, that sea floor is fantastic, shame about the smoke which really spoiles it, maybe by using colour maps for the smoke that have some clear component and plenty of turbulence you might get much better results. Also try your density map solution again but increase the max_trace leve, this is only a stab in the dark, I can't guarantee that it'll work. ===== From went@netcourrier.com: A (too) dark but very nice image. ===== From delfeld@mailcity.com: Hi! About the steam, try making it more stretched near it's outlet, and less (more cloud-like) farther away. Also, the steam woudl be from every place you see lava, which may be a trick if you use a random texture. ===== From file: The glowing cracks are great! I can imagine the heat. The smoke/steam is less convincing; too opaque or regular, perhaps.
