JPGFILE: deepsea.jpg RENDERER USED: Povray 3.1g TOOLS USED: Moray, Photoshop RENDER TIME: 24 hours? HARDWARE USED: PentiumIII-400 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: When I saw that the topic was sea about 500 ideas immediately popped up into my head: Submarines, divers, aquariums... After I while though, I concentrating some of these ideas into one... A deep sea research station with windows and a skylight out into the dark ocean, and inside aquariums with strange creatures caught using an underwater vehicle. The picture was supposed to be quite dark, only illuminated by the aquariums. The bright insides of the aquariums would then become a contrast to the rest of the picture. Yoy can see for yourselfes... I didnt have time to realise most of my ideas... and the texturing is horrible. i didn't even have time to make a final render, this is just a testrender for checking the lights. I also jpegged it much to hard resulting in really lousy quality._ This is my first submission to IRTC. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Most things are modelled from scratch using Moray basic shapes. The rocks at the bottom of the big aquarium are made from a heightfield derived of a color-picture found on the internet. Some of the fishes are also textured by bitmaps. I have used quite many lights: One fading pointlight in the center of each aquarium, and at least one in each aquarium light-ramp. In addition to this there is a red light in the sluis (or what it is called) and one camera-light to smooth the shadows. Inside the big aquarium I have put an area-light , being the main-light-source. Well, that's about it. I rendered it at 800x500 3x3 antialiasing the submitted rendering just to check that my lightning gave the right atmosphere. Next time I will try a simpler scene, giving more time to modelling.
