TITLE: World's End NAME: Angela Perry COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: angelaperry@webcombo.net WEBPAGE: http://www.geocities.com/dawn_phoenix_2000 TOPIC: Sea COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: endworld.jpg ZIPFILE: endworld.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.1 TOOLS USED: old-fashioned pen and paper RENDER TIME: 10 minutes 37 seconds HARDWARE USED: Pentium IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Very little was known about the sea until the early explorers braved the unknown. Luckily, they didn't live in my world...*grin* The image is a graphical depiction of early explorers fears. It also embodies my own feelings toward the unknown, as I strike out to learn raytracing and enter a new community. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The part of the boat I spent the most time creating was the ladder rigging--ironically, you can barely see it. I used several simple algebraic formulas to create macros that would build the ladder from cylinders. Because of technical restraints (a computer from the Jurassic period), I did not use any tools besides POV-Ray. The scene is made up of simple shapes and CSG objects, with a couple superellipsoid objects thrown in. I chose to use to the "wrinkle" pattern over "ripples" or "waves," because the deep sea did not seem to look right otherwise. I defined a few colors and patterns, but most came from the .inc files included with POV-Ray.
