TITLE: Timeless Scene NAME: Tim Glover COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: tglover@nettally.com WEBPAGE: N/A TOPIC: Sea COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: timeless.jpg ZIPFILE: timeless.zip RENDERER USED: Povray for Windows version 3.02 TOOLS USED: Moray RENDER TIME: 20 minutes with other things running HARDWARE USED: 500 Mhz pentium - Win 95 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A scene that could be as much as 400 million years old. Back to the Devonian. Further back before the dinosaurs than we are ahead of them. Or could be found (if you knew EXACTLY where to look) even today. Algae, horseshoe crabs and crinoids. A shallow sea. The sun. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I was messing around with textures and found one that worked OK as a shallow sea surface. Then I needed to populate the sea. Some of my favorite critters are the "left-overs", the "living fossils". Algae was a given. Gotta have plants. (Algae thanks to: Model created by Drew Costigan, copyright 2000 3dplants.com "This model is free for commercial or non-commercial use.") Next came the crinoid segments -- all done with CSG and extrusions by me. Finally the horseshoe crabs. Again -- lots of extrusions, CSG and a couple of well-plaed spheres for eyes. (Source code has different name than pic -- I changed pic name.)
