TITLE: ColdLightWarmShadows NAME: Alex Postma COUNTRY: Netherlands EMAIL: a.v.postma@amc.uva.nl WEBPAGE: www.geocities.com/soho/7499 TOPIC: Contrast COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: coldligh.jpg RENDERER USED: Real3d v3.53 RENDER TIME: 20 hours IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The contest subject was Contrast. That gives you quite a lot of freedom; for me contrast ment flowing organic forms cast in hard steel/chrome playing on an alien landscape. The overall impression I wanted to make with this picture is that of contrast: steel, organic, light, shadow, soft, sharp. The title was picked up from a poem I liked. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I just varied several tube and helical freeform objects until I got the overall look I wanted. Lighten conditions were the result of experiments done in Bryce and recreating it in Real3D. The hard shadows are done on purpose with pointlights to get a contrast with the soft feel of the picture. Rendertime 20 hours on a P166 using Real V3.53, all textures are procedural ones. Posteffect used was Fog, supersampling 3x3, lightsamples at 1.
