===== From sshaw@fas.harvard.edu: I wasn't sure how to rate the artistic merit, since the artistic process here was largely one of reproduction. However, you have to get credit for the recognition of artistic meric in the original. I would have liked to see more effort in the mountains; these look like a height field, not a mountain range. ===== From emediez@emediez.com: Nice image and effects, very difficult to do in Bryce. ===== From charliemc@prodigy.net: Love ur mountains. ===== From elvish_archer@mailcity.com: strange ===== From mar@physics.usyd.edu.au: I like this a lot, in the top half and the bottom quarter. The bad point: The black hills in the middle ground are just far too black. I had to up the gamma a lot to see any detail in there at all, and then the rest of the image was very washed out. But overall this does very well. The foreground details are excellent. The background looks a bit more jagged than anything in Yosemite Valley, but not too much so if I assume the spikes on top are pine trees. I would have liked to see the black and white contrast a little more stark in both the background and the foreground, but that's a minor quibble. Very well done. ===== From steve@neurotrain.com: A 14 T 15 C 20 Very good picture. The horse is a nice touch. Framed well. Lighting for the hills could be improved. Technically I took points away because of the jaggies in your mountains. Either increase the size of the heightfield image and smooth it, or do not scale it so much. The hills really needed to be brighter...either through additional lights or brighter texture. Excellent concept...many layers of contrast ===== From StephenF@whoever.com: This has an interesting look, although I don't care for the solid black through the middle of it. The tress look pretty nice. ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: Nice attention to detail, such as the grasses and horse. Very good work. I find the "black band" a little disconcerting -- is it really so close to pitch-black in real life? The overall light level of the bottom 1/4 of the image is superb. ===== From hfventer@ing.sun.ac.za: The mountains in the back are a bit TOO spikey, but I guess thats contrast for you :) The sky is a bit too obviously a plane. A larger texture map could have helped there. ===== From mark.wagner17@gte.net: The clouds need work, but other than that, this is a very good image! ===== From beliaev@utu.fi: It would have been a good picture it it were not for the black terrain. It spoils everything.
