===== From charliemc@prodigy.net: I like it. ===== From klynn@uswest.net: This would make a fun animation! ===== From hgregory3@aol.com: Artistic - A nicely done night scene. Technical - Thank you for the detailed notes, obviously a lot of hard work. Concept - A contrast of sorts. ===== From jrcsurvey@aol.com: Beautiful, simply beautiful. "Magic Realism" comes to mind. Like you've accomplished visually, what the literary movement tried to do with narrative. It's the ripple that really makes the scene, that and the luminosity. And while you used a lot of models and macros, you used them to expertly and to effect. The ripple you sweated over is what much of the scene hinges on,...where reality meets the fantastic. ===== From steve@neurotrain.com: A 20 T 18 C 20 Not much to say. The mood is set beautifully, I feel I'm on my way to my car after work. I may have placed some of the pieces differently, but that is more personal style than artistic nature. Amazing and beautiful!! Technically I was torn on what to award as points. Many of my issues were raised in the text file. And when I learned that there are no image maps...well I wasn't sure I should shake your hand or shake my head. In the end I decided that the picture is what really matters, if image maps would have made a better picture then they should have been used - so I docked one point for the parking lot, one for the cars with solid/one piece bodies, and 2 for the spherical edges of the splash. I then awarded one bonus point for the clutter in the parking lot and another for the sky wich would no look out of place in photograph Excellent concept ===== From StephenF@whoever.com: Nice mix of fantasy and reality here. The trees and bushes look good. Perhaps a few too many stars, though? ===== From gmccarter@hotmail.com: Fascinating. Quite a unique concept. Something doesn't quite work with the overall arrangement & lighting of the scene: the problem is that the background elements attract the eye too much and take precedence over the dolphin and its impressive splash. I would revise the lighting to put more light directly over the dolphin, dim the other lights, brighten the sky to put the trees more in silhouette, and rearrange the parking lot to eliminate all the perspective lines from converging on the building in the background. Also, the car paint intensity could be toned down (visual color perception is significantly reduced in the dark). The cat, as the secondary focus (and major storytelling element) of the scene, needs to be slightly more visible. How about putting it in the light near the red car? Don't take all this criticism the wrong way. This is one of my favorite images of the competition. Great work, Mark! ===== From hfventer@ing.sun.ac.za: The background and the main feature (the dolphin) dont quite come togeather. Its TOO much of a contrast. The night scene is quite good tho. Love the lighting and on the plants. Very mood setting. ===== From fabien.mosen@skynet.be: Absolutely superb ! By far, the best variation I ever seen of these boring dolphins :-) ===== From white@rational.com: Great idea and nice execution. A couple comments. The wheels on the blue car are perfectly aligned both with each other and with the ground. This car also looks flat. Both of these disturbed the reality you have carefully crafted. Angling the car slightly and mis-aligning the wheels would make this one fade into the background. The dolphin is leaping at a 90 degree angle to the camera. A leap from right back to left front would add depth. ===== From mark.wagner17@gte.net: Outstanding image! ===== From beliaev@utu.fi: I doubt if anyone reads your text to the end.
