TITLE: The Candle NAME: Jakob Tendel COUNTRY: Germany EMAIL: jake@snafu.de TOPIC: Contrast COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: jtthecan.jpg RENDERER USED: Povray 3.1g TOOLS USED: Moray 3.2 RENDER TIME: 3h + (aa) HARDWARE USED: PII 400 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Darkness, a dank and dusty room. Moonlight falls through dirty windows onto the bare floorboards. The only source of warmth and comfort is a lone candle on the wooden table. Its light spreads golden through the dark and dispells the creeping depression that the people indoors feel. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I made this in Moray. The rrom is modelled with a combination of sweeps and CSGs. The textures are very important to me aesthetically, so I spent a lot of time in the Moray TexEdit on the textures, which are mostly layered and bumped. The lights are mostly area lights, except the point light in the candle to get the diffusion through the wax. The windows include a scattering media to simulate the dust. I wanted to get a scattering effect in the air, but render times didn't allow it.
