TITLE: This is No Fortress NAME: Ryan Twitchell COUNTRY: United States EMAIL: tryan2@rochester.rr.com WEBPAGE: http://wackyland.virtualave.net TOPIC: Fortress COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: rtfort02.jpg RENDERER USED: MegaPOV 0.7 TOOLS USED: Paint Shop Pro HARDWARE USED: AMD Athlon Thunderbird 850MHz, 128MB RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The image is of lots of tiny people who have made a home out of a snail shell. They are fleeing their home as they realize it is not safe and a human foot comes crashing down on it. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The shoe is a height field made in Paint Shop Pro, everything else was made in POV. The shell and people are blobs. The sidewalk is an isosurface, though you can hardly tell now. The shell was made using a simple #while loop inside of a blob statement, each component is colored semi-randomly; the holes are all negative components. The people are based on the design I came up with for the robots in my first entry for this topic, only they are simple blob characters. Everything else in the scene is just simple POV filling in the background (which I should have worked on much more). Radiosity and a focal blur were used to improve the general look of the scene; though these clashed along with the rainbow coloring of the shell to create alot of rendering artifacts which were difficult to iron out, though sacrificing a good high count value finally fixed the problem (went from 150 to 20 before it worked).
