TITLE: Infestation NAME: Grey Knight COUNTRY: Ireland EMAIL: greyknight3@hotmail.com WEBPAGE: sorry, not at the minute TOPIC: Insects & Spiders COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: gkinfest.jpg ZIPFILE: gkinfest.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.1 TOOLS USED: My brain & a calculator -) RENDER TIME: 7m 27s HARDWARE USED: Pentium III IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A Sectoid invasion swarm moves down a small street in the 'burbs, consuming everything in it's path. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Hooh baby. I only came up with the concept for this four (count 'em!) days before the deadline. As a result, I had to sacrifice certain amount of image quality over time. Still, I think it worked out quite well. The entire scene was created from scratch; none of these models are prefabs (although I did design the insects & spider as prefabs so I could reuse them later). You may have noticed the preponderance of CSG primitives in the scene. I must confess to being a bit of a "primitive" man; I very rarely use advanced objects. The most advanced shape in this scene is the blob{} used for the spider's body, and the only patch object is a single disc{} in the beetles' buzzsaws! I was trying to get some fire & explosions in the ruined buildings behind the swarm, but they didn't work out so I removed them (4 days, remember?) I was going to but in some wasps with missile launchers, but again; no time. Ah well, maybe next time. Well, I don't think this is going to win, but I might at least get a good score in Originality:-)
