JPGFILE: sponsor1.jpg RENDERER USED: OpenFX TOOLS USED: -OpenFX Designer -POV-Ray -Pbrush -IrfanView -Jans Formati 8 RENDER TIME: 20 min 38 sec HARDWARE USED: AMD K6, 32 Mb RAM, running Windows 98 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Some sponsors might help with the high expenses of the preservation of nature, and that would be a practical use for all that knlowledge in genetic science... (yeah, it's not a good joke, I know, I know...) DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: 1. Modelling : I used only OpenFX Designer, the butterfly was made with 4 spheres, the 2 for the body were very deformed, and the wings are modified circles, the plant was made only with deformed spheres, for the leaves I just deleted some triangles from the spheres, and the trees are simple cylinders. 2. Textures : I used some of the texture plugins included with OpenFX to make the textures for the trees, plants, and the butterfly's body and eyes, the floor uses a procedural texture, and the image maps that I used for the wings were edited using Pbrush and IrfanView, based on the original logos I downloaded from the Internet. The image map used for the sky is just a PovRay scene of a sky_sphere with a simple granite pattern. 3. Scene : The scene was put together with the OpenFX animation module, using only one light source. 4. Image : I used the OpenFX Renderer with all the raytracing options turned on. The image was rendered as an 800x600 .bmp file and I used Pbrush to add the signature and Jans Formati 8 to make the .jpg file. This is the first scene I make using OpenFX, I just downloaded the huge 41 Mb package a couple of weeks ago, so I'm not experienced with it, but till now I have found it easy to use and very powerful, specially because it lets you make your test renders very quickly. It took me only one day to make this entire scene, from modelling to rendering, and as I am not too sure about what I did here I have not provided any source files. Anyway, if you think something in this scene could be useful for you, just e-mail me.
