The one depicted here is karate, coming from Japan. The man behind the rice paper screens executes a "kata", a codified series of movements, that represents a virtual fight against several opponents. The scene takes place in a traditional japanese room, where I tried to collect many references to japanese or chinese culture (actually, the man is seen as a shadow graph, that we call in french: "chinese shadows"...). DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: ------------------------------------------ No fancy technics in this picture, so here is a list of the objects: - walls: boxes, simply textured - beams on the ceil: rounded boxed. - rice paper screens: basic CSG, and the screen uses double_illuminate. Done in a macro. - tatamis: done with a macro, and placed with 2 nested while loops. - paintings on the walls: done with a macro from a previous IRTC round (worship). The pictures were found on the internet (on a site about japanese art). - the lighting cube: a macro, using media, double_illuminate, and soft shadows. - the bonsai: done with Gilles Tran's Maketree macro. - the tables: simple CSG. - the tea set: simple CSG for the cups, and the bicubic-patched Utah Teapot. - the cushions: a mix of cylinders, spheres ans mesh2, done with a macro. - the PS2 ans its controller: CSG, image maps, and a bit of sPatch. - the TV: basic CSG, with a filtering image map placed before an area light. - the chinese puzzle on the TV: basic CSG. - the karateka: "Michael" model from DAZ3D, with his pants. - the "geisha": "Victoria 2" model from DAZ3D, and the kimono by ISO. This render uses radiosity. All direct light sources use soft shadows. Close-ups of the chinese puzzle, PS2 and bonsai are available on my site, in the "Galerie" section. Except for copyrighted meshes and image maps, the source code is provided. The image maps resolution was reduced for a smaller archive.
