JPGFILE: irtc_sub.jpg RENDERER USED: Tachyon TOOLS USED: Photoshop for image cropping RENDER TIME: about 10min for 10,000 x 10,000 pixel image HARDWARE USED: Dec Alpha ES40 IMAGE DESCRIPTION: This self similar fractal has what is known as the "Wada" property, that is, each point on a basin boundary is also on the boundary of every other basin. This extremely simple and elegant 3D model has a "Worlds within Worlds" property to an infinite extent. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Consider 4 perfectly reflecting spheres arranged so each sphere is touching the other three (tetrahedral). Shine a coloured light into one of the gaps. The light will exit a gap depending on its incident angle, the pattern of exiting light is the basin boundary for that gap. In this image three lights are placed outside three of the gaps and the camera looks into the remaining gap. For more details see http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/pbourke/fractals/wada/
