TITLE: Winter-tree NAME: Tom Melly COUNTRY: UK EMAIL: tom@tomandlu.co.uk WEBPAGE: http://www.tomandlu.co.uk/ TOPIC: Winter COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: tmwinter.jpg ZIPFILE: tmwinter.zip RENDERER USED: POV 3.5.beta (Win95/2000) RC2 TOOLS USED: PSP7 (for gamma-correction of final image) RENDER TIME: 5hrs 1min 57secs HARDWARE USED: P3/733 for render, P2/233 for development IMAGE DESCRIPTION: I've submitted many snow-based images to the IRTC, so my heart slightly sank when I saw the topic. However, all my previous snow images had been fairly festive and/or fantasy based, so I thought I'd go for something a bit more mundane and harsher. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Lighting: No lightsources, all light is via radiosity from the sky. Sky: A simple grayscale pigment applied to an inverted sphere. A second sphere, slightly smaller, fades from rgbf 1 to Gray25 in an approx. -z direction. Tree: Generated via a macro that stores junctions in an array - vaguely based on a lightning macro from a couple of entries ago. Wall: Another macro, stacking irregular iso-surface blocks on an undulating object. Snow: The snow on the wall and tree is placed by another macro using trace. The snowfield is a fairly basic iso-surace.
