===== From tek@evilsuperbrain.com: Would have been nice to have a few dew drops on the web to catch the light :) Really nice spider model. ===== From henry@unforgettable.com: Simple, but v effective ===== From maarten_hofman@hotmail.com: Even though there aren't many objects in this scene, it is quite impressive (to me). I actually like spiders, but the web still caught the loneliness. ===== From darwallace@earthlink.net: Check p.advanced-users for a new spiderweb idea (low-accracy crackle loses the center and looks like a web). Needs an environment setting (abandoned barn with moon outside window)> ===== From : Unlike most people, I tend to like spiders. Hence I like this image as well. Though the web still does look too artificial. I believe natural webs are still more random than that. But that may be a difference of opinion. P.S. the spider legs themselves could use smoother modeling. Also you may want to add hairs for extra realism. ===== From stomkaer@uninets.net: would have been nice to have a couple leaves and branches to frame it to give it more depth. ===== From awilcox@dreampeach.com: Well done. ===== From whitey@telefragged.com: i like it, but the lighting could have been done a little better. it's night time, and the spider is entirely too bright. it would have been better if you had removed the main light and turn the brightness up on the moon light. ===== From beighton155@yahoo.com: A nice idea on the theme and a very nice picture. Maybe a little more action would be nice, something in the sky maybe? ===== From novotek@web.de: great job, kerry ! nice modelling - but unfortunately a little bit "flat-rendered" (spider's too soft - some kind of bump-mapping with fine noise would help if you don't want to add hair). hooray to the web - i know, that's only "some lines" - but most of it the effect you want to have with this is tricky (some dewdrop ?). hope your engine doesn't be "webbed" in the render-process of 20 hours... :) ===== From ruy@hipernet.com.br: Great concept! Spiders are a solid personification of the concept of loneliness, I believe. I like the moon as well, but it seems that your spider is being lit from the front, rather than from it. ===== From jpgargoyle@sapo.pt: It isn't lonely. It is doing what a spider does: hunting. And if it is lonely it's by it's own choice. Female Spiders mate and eat the male (if they can catch him ;D) Best regards. ===== From dapigg2000@yahoo.com: Pros: Model of the spider, the night sky, the moon, the spider web cons: The clouds are 2D... they look 2D, it was a dead giveaway. ===== From rclee@oklahoma.net: Interesting point of view. ===== From jrcsurvey@aol.com: Beautiful job on the spider web. Insects are certainly inscrutible. ===== From glenn@mccarters.net: Good web -- an actual spiral, and not quite symmetrical. The = perspective seems off: since we see nothing but the sky, the camera must = be pointing nearly straight up. But that would mean that the web is = horizontal. I thought most webs were more-or-less vertical. ===== From jinx@spodbox.fsnet.co.uk: I can't exactly explain WHY, but the clouds just don't look RIGHT. ===== From p_chan@shaw.ca: I like the composition of this image. I feel that the "uncluttered simpleness," as you put it, of this image adds to the feeling of loneliness which it conveys. The web is done well, successfully creating a natural looks, but I do find the beginning of the outward spiral somewhat abrupt and awkward. ===== From harlidobib@redshift.com: I love your concept, as well as its execution. ===== From StephenF@whoever.com: This is nice... the spider and web both look good, although the spider might benefit from a different texture. Moon and clouds look good too. ===== From jl@artcom-gmbh.de: Nice idea and result, very moody. One of my favourites in this competition. ===== From clem@dhol.org: Good idea. I like the understated web. The view showing the spider alone against the sky with no surrounding scenery visible helps the interpretation.
