TITLE: Misfit NAME: James Moore COUNTRY: US EMAIL: jtm11@bellsouth.net TOPIC: Lonliness COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: misfit2.jpg ZIPFILE: misfit2.zip RENDERER USED: POVRay 3.5 TOOLS USED: Poser, POVRay, Paintshop (for conversion to jpg) RENDER TIME: around 14hrs HARDWARE USED: Athlon XP 1900, 1GB RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: It's strange how one can be lonely in the middle of a crowd... DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The image is pretty simple, everything is CSG. The "ground" objects are superellipsoids with cylinders cut out. The round pegs are unions of cylinders with a glass texture and transparent poser objects. The square peg is the same with an emitting media for brightness. The sky is scattering media with a wrinkle pattern. I wanted the people in the round pegs to be more wispy & ghost-like, but couldn't quite get it right, so I settled on a "bubble" appearance. Also, I originally had planned to use a slight focal blur, but ran out of time (taking a fairly long break from raytracing didn't help much). I didn't expect the scene to take so long to render (most of the test renders took a little over 4 hours) or I would have used higher AA & media settings, but was really pressed for time, so I guess I'll have to live with the jagged edges & artifacts. I'm still pretty new to this & as always, greatly appreciate any comments & criticism.
