TITLE: Lonesome run NAME: Closset Etienne COUNTRY: France EMAIL: closset_etienne@yahoo.fr TOPIC: Loneliness COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. RENDERER USED: Povray 3.5 TOOLS USED: Hamapatch, Sketch, Gimp, ImageMagick RENDER TIME: 40~25h per frame, 15 frames HARDWARE USED: Amd Duron 0.8GHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Probably for many people this picture will be out of topic. Let me explain: The MXY7K1 Ohka type 11 is a japanese plane designed at the end of the World War II. The Ohka was carried by another plane, and fired near its goal. Ohka stands for cherry blossom, because like this flower falling from the tree, never returning to it, the Ohka was designed to fall from the sky on its target and never returning to it's base. Where is the loneliness here? Ok, it's not straightforward. The pilots have done this because everybody around them wants them to do so, and there were no escape but death. They have to kill themselves without wanting it. Now imagine that you are one of these pilots, imagine your last night, imagine your last run, diving at more than the sound speed, aiming a plane carrier... Now if you can't feel it and don't want to, well, my picture is a failure. If you can't feel it but wants to understand, watch Leiji Matsumoto's "The cockpit", and you will. Special thanks to Luis Gomes, who gives me tips to recover this image from a nasty hard disk crash, and to all the undernet's #povray-fr people. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The sky is made with the Jaimes Vive Piqueres stacked sky macro. The sea is an isosurface (thanks to Gilles Tran), the explosions are isosurfaces too. The Ohka is the result of my first Hamapatch contact, and the ugly maps are made with Sketch and Gimp. The boat is simple csg. The bullets and rockets exhaust are made with media. The motion blur, since it lacks in povray 3.5, is achived by averaging multiple frames
