EMAIL: henry@unforgettable.com NAME: Henry Bush COUNTRY: UK WEBPAGE: http://www.soton.ac.uk/~hjsb196/ TOPIC: Loneliness TITLE: If only COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.5 for Windows RENDER TIME: Hmm. Not sure, sorry. Think it was about 5 hours or so. TOOLS USED: Moray Paint Shop Pro 4 for JPG conversion, creation of screen images. HARDWARE USED: Athlon 650 running at 682MHz, 512Mb, Windows XP with 3Gb swapfile (peak memory usage was about 400Mb I think) IMAGE DESCRIPTION: An astronaut, stuck up in the claustrophobic enormity of a malfunctioning space vehicle, dreams of being somewhere, anywhere on the inhabited planet below. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I'm sorry, this image was a complete rush. I only spent about a week of the two months doing it, and I don't like it much, to be honest. But it'd be rude not to submit it. I did the whole thing in Moray, which is new to me: I've always just used it as a modelling tool, and done the final trace in the midst of the povray code. That's the reason I've not included source code. If anyone wants it anyway, I'd be happy to email it. As far as inside the ship is concerned, there's nothing difficult: a single red light, to give the idea of danger, simple primitives (including image mapped screens), and a brushed chrome texture that I was quite proud of. Outside, we have the planets. Well, one planet, which is image mapped with a map of the earth, and it's satellite, which is image mapped with a map of the moon. The glow round the earth is not very good: just done using two glowing, translucent spheres. Oh, and finally the sun. The lens flare is created using the lens flare plugin of Moray, but the sun is actually not visible: if I made it visible through the window, the planets weren't illuminated enough. So I moved it, and put a dummy light in to create the lens flare.
