I like the effect of the sun, but in general textures in your image need a bit of work. I tend to set aside time for getting realistic textures, up to half the creation time for complicated images...

The landscape needs work, both in form and in texture.  Even badlands have a fair amount of contrast, if not necessarily hue.

 The scene looks more of a sci-fi entry.  Not reading your text would make a viewer confused at the story your trying to get across.  
 Modeling could be improved on the landscapes, they look too flat suddenly.  Also you may want to try learning more about texturing before your next entry.

Pros: That planet in the back looks pretty cool

cons: Lack of contrast, texturing, vague models and poor colours. 

Oooch. That sounded alot harsher that it really was.

Although I do like the described idea, the image doesn't 
really convey it. You should've have used a much larger 
and broader view on the landscape, and make the ship, 
though in focus, very distant and small, to show off its 
loneliness...

I like the glow effect for the engine and the sun.  The 
texture for the terrain looks good up close, but seems 
somewhat "plasticky" in the distance.  The shadows on 
the terrain also seem somewhat inconsistent with the 
sun.
