===== From tek@evilsuperbrain.com: I still say you should have kept the blob man! :) Speaking as the guy who got you interested in POVray, I'm quite scared. I've seen this image develop over the last month and I can't believe how quickly you've improved. You're far better than I was after the same kind of time and I hope that means you're going to go on to be amazing at this. The scene captures a very strong feeling beautifully. All the elements work well, though there's still much that could be done to add to it. I don't like the horizon, because it should fog towards the sky's colour (if you'd used a media sky you'd see what I mean, look at my sentinel picture for an unrealistic example). I object to the use of a poser figure because your blob man was really good! And I'm gonna deduct a mark for the sun which is based on my code (without a credit I notice!). But on the whole, it's a great picture. I really think you could win an award this round. (Ben Weston aka: Tekno Frannansa) ===== From maarten_hofman@hotmail.com: Quite impressive. Maybe a bit cliché, but a keeper. ===== From arte3d@luisvaloyes.uni.cc: geat scene, I just would like to comment that there should be some waves or something around the bottle, because due to the color of the water it might look like if the bottle has fallen in mud, because there is no change in the water around the bottle related to the rest of the sea (or I can't see any change...) ===== From darwallace@earthlink.net: I'm going to have to introduce more people to my parametric surface generator--faster and easier than sPatch. ===== From ruy@hipernet.com.br: Kinda clichè, I believe. Your paper is too regular, but otherwise this is a good picture technically speaking. ===== From helene.dumur@free.fr: Your bottle is wonderful, and I like very much your colors ===== From dapigg2000@yahoo.com: On topic? Very! Very commendable water effects! ===== From cfusner@enter.net: For someone who has only just started using POV-Ray, you have already done quite a fine job of acquainting yourself with its capabilities. Quite well done! ===== From tim.nikias@gmx.de: Very nice idea. It conveys a sense of freedom, not that sad loneliness, with the bright and nice sunset... The bottle has a strange black rim, and some waves are missing around it, but thats just nitpicking on a nice image... ===== From rclee@oklahoma.net: I really like this image. Great work! ===== From jrcsurvey@aol.com: You have some really nice elements here especially the water and note. ===== From glenn@mccarters.net: I like the arrangement of objects in the scene which gives the image = tremendous depth. Strange but effective color tone. Good use (and not overuse) of sun = flare, but the sun's reflection on the water should be much more = intense, particularly at the horizon. I'm surprised that you didn't quite show the entire perimeter of the = island -- maybe this is just a sandbar at the edge of a conventional = coastline. If I was that guy, I would definitely be watching the progress of the = bottle right now! ===== From bill@apocalypse.org: Not that lucky... a radio or a flare gun might have helped him more. Nice orange coloring for the scene. The logo on the cork was a nice touch. Good water... Upon viewing this, I thought that perhaps the bottle was arriving and that he was looking the wrong way to see it. ===== From p_chan@shaw.ca: I like the minor details that you have put into the image, such as the writing showing through the paper, and the island fading into the water. These details greatly add to the realism of the image. My one complaint about this image is that the horizon looks too sharp. I don't know if this could be fixed by increasing anti-aliasing for the image, so the only idea I can come up with is using a very weak ground fog (I agree the image should be kept clearer, as it gives the impression of a clear day). Oh, if you still want to try giving the impression of ripples coming from the island and bottle, you might want to experiment with my technique for creating ripples in an isosurface (although I'm not sure how well it would work with your current isosurface). See the text file accompanying pc_lost.jpg (in this round) for a description of the method. The source file is also included, and you can e-mail me if you wan't to ask me about it. ===== From patrick@sypa.net: I saw your blob-man version on the nes group ... wich I prefered by far ... so you are another one to prefer tha facility of poser ===== From jl@artcom-gmbh.de: Nice water, the waves are out of scale compared to the bottle, though. And it doesn't seem to be translucent at all. ===== From clem@dhol.org: Concept is a bit stereotyped, of course, but this is a beautiful realization. Amazing work for a POV newbie. The water is quite nice and the interaction with the island is excellent.
