===== From rgow@lanset.com: The rocks look very good. Planet could maybe be not so hard. ===== From tek@evilsuperbrain.com: The clouds on the planet look very wierd. On real planets (well, earth anyway) they're much less solid and much closer to the surface. Also, there's too much ambient light on the moon. Ambient light is reflected by things (in a landscape it's the atmosphere), so on the moon shadows should be black because there's only space. On the plus side your rocks look really nice, and the photons in the beacon are cool. ===== From shay@simcoparts.com: I noticed your attention to detail, like the hole in which the PoV logo is resting. The shadows now, I think, are not dark enough. ===== From chris@ugan.com: It's too bad that you put a big POV symbol in the middel of this image because it make it look like an advertisement not art. sorry ===== From maarten_hofman@hotmail.com: This picture looks more like a spectacular landscape than many of the other entries this round, and I liked the way you worked around the limitations of your hardware. ===== From rich@brickbots.com: This is a good concept and generally well executed. The surface of the moon could use more contrast as the light from the 'beacon' seems much to bright in relation to the sun. The clouds around the earth have too much depth to them and the atmosphere in general is too thick. ===== From awesomeamazingaaron@yahoo.com: Nice photon mapping. Liked it but I object to "Since I had no possibilities to create realistic plants or other natural shapes, using only the POV-Raytracer." With macros and plugins you can do wonders. ===== From llama009@hotmail.com: great glass and glow effect on the beacon ===== From juanjcampos32@hotmail.com: The POV logo lends this image a postmodern touch and an excellent cheese point. The atmosphere on the Earth looks a lot like popcorn though. ===== From the_dark_allies@hotmail.com: Quite a strange concept. I am curious to know why the earth looks like that, strewn with gigantic rocks? Perhaps some more clues could be added to portray what you are trying to get across to the viewer. ===== From charliemc@prodigy.net: a little on the simple side but nice ===== From Sardook@telocity.com: Liked the glass logo. The mountains on the "Earth" are a bit big. ===== From nealdelfeld@yahoo.com: It does fit the theme. Good work-around to your problems. Balance ambient against specular, diffuse, and reflection in textures to find the effect that you were having problems with. ===== From chris_hormann@gmx.de: Interesting photon effects but the contrast between light and shadow on the moon should be much stronger. The clouds on the planet seem too solid and the atmosphere layer should probably be thinner. ===== From clem@dhol.org: The pov symbol "beacon" is uncalled for and detracts. The orange shading adds nothing. Given its size, Earth is relatively smoother than a cueball. The lumpiness is unneeded and distracting. Moon surface looks eroded, but isn't bad otherwise. ===== From p_chan@shaw.ca: Excellent lighting effect for the POV-Ray logo. While I like the atmosphere effect on the planet, the large clouds seem out of place, as they should seem to be pretty much flat and on the surface of the planet at this distance. I also feel the stars should be brighter. ===== From glenn@mccarters.net: Good contrasts between the blue Earth and the barren moon. The earth = could be improved by keeping the clouds much closer to the surface of = the Earth -- cloud shadows should not be visible a quarter million miles = away! ===== From r@168-215-245-100.gen.twtelecom.net: All hail POV!!! Oh wait this compitition is about art.
