TITLE: A Frozen Moment NAME: Bob Franke COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: bfranke2@attbi.com WEBPAGE: http://www.geocities.com/bob_franke/pov/pov.htm TOPIC: Frozen Moment COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: a_moment.jpg ZIPFILE: a_moment.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.5 for Windows TOOLS USED: POV editor, Paint Shop Pro for the watch face and JPEG conversion RENDER TIME: about 19 hrs. HARDWARE USED: generic Pentium-III 450 w/ 256 MB RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A pocket watch in a block of ice, A Frozen Moment. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: A very simple image with my first use of isosurface's, black magic to me, and Photons. The block of ice is a very simple isosurface, using the f_superellipsoid function. How other POV users develop functions to create a desired shape is beyond my math abilities. Sometimes I think they just get a function to work and then try to find a use for the result. The pocket watch is just a bunch of cylinders and tori. I got lazy with the face and made an image map from a photo of a pocket watch on the Internet. I added focal blur, some ground fog and a couple of simple cones in the background. That it, good luck to all in the competition. Bob
