===== From rgow@lanset.com: Great job! Excellent modeling & the camera angle gives a very convincing photograph feel. Maybe a little to clean, but certainly not a flaw. ===== From raytracing@grayproductions.net: You put a lot of effort into this piece and it shows. ===== From tek@evilsuperbrain.com: Superb concept, one of the best ideas this round. The modelling is good, and the textures are nice. I particularly like the period details like the shop signs and the billboards. Despite all this it doesn't look like a photograph, and I think that's because your lighting isn't high enough contrast. If you look at black and white photos from the 30's you see a lot of pure black and white and only a few greys, but this image has much softer tones. ===== From xilo_m@hotpop.com: You're on the right track to make beautiful images, but unfortunately you don't seem to have an artistic sense... An artistic image would have movement, would tell a story, have a past and a future... and all this in a still image... When looking at your picture, I see a very nice render of a blue-print! Try working on the concept of you future IRTC submissions! ===== From marlo.steed@uleth.ca: Concept is good. The technical merit is high but you didn't do as well on artist merit because the image looked too 2D for me. I think it is the lighting that is the problem it sort of washes out the scene and pushes everything against the screen. ===== From hildurka@simnet.is: Great work on the buildings. I always find it difficult to get reasonable results when trying to render B/W in Pov. It almost always looks cartoon-like, I don_t know the trick to get more realistic textures/shadows/lighting that way. Good try though. The overall composition is good, but I think I would have liked it better in full color. Even though this is historical scene, the real world was in full color back then, only the camera prints were still B/W. ===== From chris_hormann@gmx.de: Interesting concept. The lighting could be improved, the foreground wall looks somewhat flat. The stripes in the sky are probably intentional but i think the scene would look better without them. ===== From p_chan@shaw.ca: Excellent work! The level of detail in the scene is amazing. I think the old photo feel of the image works very well. ===== From intertek@one.net: That's a wonderful concept! It's nice that you made it black and white = added film grain and vignetting. I don't think most people go so far in = thinking about the "finish" of their renderings. It is especially = helpful here since you are working on a historic image. I disagree with = your comment about keeping the windows dark to avoid drawing attention = away from the building. I think you had a fine opportunity to have an = interior\exterior view. Image if there was one window (Edward Hopper = style) that was close enough and open enough to see a man reading a news = paper. It would draw your attention but you would be reminded of the = people of the day, their environment, and their plight. Hitchcock. Look = at how Hitchcock mixes backgrounds, people, and foreground elements to = tell his stories. By the way I'm very impressed at the level of detail = in your image. I had to go back and look a couple of times to find the = things you mentioned in your description. ===== From slone@hiwaay.net: Wonderful concept and image. Well done!
