===== From rgow@lanset.com: Interesting concept. I like the earth. But if this is the dark side of the moon, why is it so bright? ===== From leoszilard@yahoo.com: Of course, the modelling does leave some to be desired. I think with some effort and a more overall futuristic landscape, this would work. Certainly buildings in domes, etc. are the typical moonscape scene. Good concept. ===== From raytracing@grayproductions.net: The concept is solid. I think you might surprise yourself with a little more effort on the picture. ===== From tek@evilsuperbrain.com: You know, that "dark side of the moon" looks awfully light. I'm not sure what suggestions to make on this, but I'll try not to be too harsh: Your height field looks like lego, you should probably try using pov's 16-bit height field format. The moon should be grey, and if this is the dark side of it it should be black, but that would be pointless. The shape of the hotel is interesting, but the texture on it should be more regular, and shouldn't stretch across the side like that. The earth looks wrong, because the image mapped onto it is not a real photo from space (the water is the wrong colour). The letters have no visible means of support. And the scene would be much nicer if there was something happening, e.g. shuttles flying too and from the hotel. Finally, it's not possible to tell how big the earth is because it's not possible to see how far away it is, if you want a realistic earth to look bigger you could just move the camera further away from the hotel and then zoom it in, this will make the earth appear bigger but the hotel will remain the same size. I hope these suggestions help. I like the choice of subject for this image. ===== From xilo_m@hotpop.com: You should work on you POV-Ray's abilities... An artistic image would have movement, would tell a story, have a past and a future... and all this in a still image... When looking at your picture, I see a very nice render of a blue-print or an idea! Try working on the concept of you future IRTC submissions! PS: there is no light on the dark side of the moon... ===== From marlo.steed@uleth.ca: The concept could have been good but there was not much structure here that one would of as architecture. ===== From hildurka@simnet.is: The earth looks nice, it is not necessarily too large, zoom lenses do that all the time. The surface of the moon is interesting but the texture doesn_t look right, it_s like cheese ore something. You might want to work more on rock textures or simply try other_s . Lots of rock textures out there. The idea of a hotel on the moon is a good one, and the crescent is a perfect form.. But you have to remember that less gravity than on earth does not mean zero gravity. In all cases the building would need something to stand on, some kind of a foundation. And the letters of the sign seem to float in mid air. I_m also missing some more details on the building, like windows, to give feeling for scale. But I like the idea. ===== From R.Bartsch@chello.nl: That's not the dark side of the moon (it can be recognized by the = absense of light;) )
