===== From rgow@lanset.com: An intriguing scene. Columns and dome look good. Lighting looks somewhat flat, more contrast would help. ===== From raytracing@grayproductions.net: I think the stone textures might benefit from being a little more subtle and I would like to see a few softer rounded edges on the columns. I like the layout though. ===== From tek@evilsuperbrain.com: "Inspired by the halls of moria"? According to the "making of" documentaries I saw they specifically avoided having any curves in the mines of moria, because the dwarves like to build things with angles. But anyway, that's not a criticism of the image :) The lighting in the scene seems very unnatural. It looks like you haven't used radiosity, which would really help a scene like this where everything is mostly in shadow. The materials and modelling are good, though the marble should be more reflective. The biggest problem with the scene is it looks thrown together, lacking in one consistent concept. Why are there marble pillars inside a geodesic dome? The fact that you "like the look" of it doesn't really suggest any thought about what this is meant to represent. For example, if the scene was set in a city with an old marble building near a new geodesic one to emphasize the changing nature of architecture then this would be a much nicer image, with a lot more meaning. ===== From xilo_m@hotpop.com: You're on the right track to make beautiful images, but unfortunately you don't seem to have an artistic sense... An artistic image would have movement, would tell a story, have a past and a future... and all this in a still image... When looking at your picture, I see a very nice render of a blue-print! Try working on the concept of you future IRTC submissions! ===== From marlo.steed@uleth.ca: I think this model has potential. Your choice of textures and colors takes away potentially good image. For instance, the bright green in the background competes with the forground images. The marble textures some how don't look like marble. Maybe it is the lighting or the textures themselves - not sure. ===== From hildurka@simnet.is: I see you are in a difficult position regarding the lighting of this scene. This often happens in Pov Ray especially when working with dark materials like your ceiling. Everything gets somehow too light, the contrasts dissappear and the rendering gets too pale. What this scene needs is more contrast between light and dark areas, without loosing the details. Probably the amount of light should be reduced in some areas (under the arches) and maybe the radiosity settings should be revised. Nice setup, good textures. I don_t see more than one type of columns but they are O.K. Good work! ===== From chris_hormann@gmx.de: The textures look somewhat 'straight away from the standard include files', otherwise it looks fairly good.
