===== From skipt1@aol.com: I like how the snow piles up against the building. That was a nice touch. If you are going to use conventional shaped mountains then a bit more detail on them would help. If not I would have gone for a iceberg type look or even snow type dunes. Scattering media makes for good smoke as long as the edges are not evident like they are here. Use the isosurface function as a density in your media to keep the sharp edges out. Nice image and on topic. ===== From tek@evilsuperbrain.com: The lack of textures in this scene makes it seem almost like an abstract, and I kind of like that for this particular image. Still, I think it would look better with a realistic snow texture (something bumpy and shiny). Also the smoke from the chimney has an obvious hard edge that looks very wrong. The foot prints and snow formations are good and really make this scene work. Also the design of the hut looks very realistic, but could use a little more weathering to make it look like it's not brand new. ===== From noe.falzon@tiscali.fr: At last a bit of snow in all this sand ! Thanks ;) ===== From rgow@lanset.com: Good one! Great job on the cabin & footprints. Smoke shows the edges of the cone, maybe less dense media. ===== From i-mcnamara@cornellcollege.edu: I love the snow, it's a nice contrast to all the other standard deserts. The lone figure is a very powerful image that works quite well to create a sense of isolation. The house is simple, but very well built, and the snow surrounding it is great. The smoke is one of the weaker parts of the picture, but I can't really think of a better way to model it. Yet without the smoke, the picture would seem a bit empty, and least on the right side. Good use of height fields in the background and some solid texture work. A great entry. ===== From ericf@foothill.net: Frozen wastes are indeed as much a desert as any other kind. I like the building, has a very solid, real feel to it. And the figure walking off into the distance looks good too. The distant mouhtains felt a little to rounded and soft - snow can definitely create some very sharp angles, I don't see them here. Otherwise and interesting picture to look at. ===== From dylan_beadle@yahoo.com: no snow on roof... ===== From raytracing@grayproductions.net: House an background seem to be two separate entities. Perhaps this could be fixed with simple measures like snow on the roof. I like the concept though. ===== From darwallace@earthlink.net: The smoke cone is too sharply defined. ===== From file: Notable for originality ===== From file: You need texture for the snow and the light is not the good one but the composition is very good Notable for composition, originality ===== From file: This is good! The footprints are excellent. The only thing that really strikes me is the fact that the shack is clean. I would imagine it gets grubby, sitting year after year in the katabatic wind. The hills in the distance need something-- I think perahps a trifle of translucent blue? Well done.. Notable for modelling
