Rustic hideaway cabin, removed from urban noise. Surrounded by nature, fantastic view. Small but airy. Well ventilated and dry. Roof in need of some repair, good project for handyman type. As is. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Sky and atmosphere is a gradient mapped sky_sphere aided by some fog. Terrains are all height_fields created with planetGenesis 1.3, a simple but highly functional terrain generator. ( available at: http://planetgenesis.sourceforge.net/ ) Rocks are made by intersecting randomly rotated height_fields also created in planetGenesis, and placed using trace(). Grass is a mesh generated by a macro that applies it to the terrain using trace(). Shack is CSG with height_fields for the brickwalls. Circling buzzards are made with sphere_sweeps and randomly placed with a while() loop. Cactus and thistle looking weeds modelled in Wings3D, exported as mesh2 objects then applied to the terrain with trace(). Wagon wheel is CSG, borrowed from my "Old Technology" round entry. Lighting is mostly a point light sun, and a faint secondary point light opposite to provide some color in the shadows, with several light_groups in the foreground to highlight objects and give me better control over contrast. Tried radiosity but the results weren't worth the render time. The secondary point light gave me much the same effect with no noticable increase in render time. Textures are all POV procedural by me, except the brickwalls which are an image_map. Landscape textures are a project I had worked on sporadically prior to the start of this round, but this topic gave me the incentive to finally get it to a usable state, and I learned a LOT about POV texturing in the process. No source, sorry, its a mess. It's mostly Wings meshfiles and large .png files from planetGenesis anyway, not much to see. If anyone's interested in any of it e-mail me. Good luck to all!
