RENDER TIME: 35m 11s HARDWARE USED: 2.66 GHz Pentium 256 MB Ram IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Inhospitable, beautiful, and dangerous. Humans have no dominion here. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The scorpion is mostly isosurfaces and blobs. I had no idea how I was going to do it when I started, but because it had repeating shapes - like 8 very similar legs, 5 very similar tail segments etc, I felt it had to be a good POV-Ray subject. I studied lots of photos and then built it piece-by-piece, trying to get each bit right before even thinking about the next bit. I was incredibly pleased with how it came out - far better than I'd hoped. Colour was a bit of a problem because the scorpion range appears to be pretty dull. In the end I abandoned realism in favour of the picture. There's probably a bright red scorpion somewhere in the world anyway.
