JPGFILE: minimal1.jpg RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.6 TOOLS USED: Photoshop for adding text and conversion to JPEG RENDER TIME: 0d 00h 56m 42s HARDWARE USED: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.93GHz, 512 MB of RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: By keeping things simple the details become more apparent and since the topic is "Minimalism" this time, I decided to use a rather empty symbol and keep things simple. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: I used CSG for the symbol by subtracting and adding toruses, cylinders and 1 box. For creating the darker edges and the beams I used mostly toruses. All materials have fresnel reflection and have a small-scale bumped normal. The light and sky are an interaction of light_source with media. Using focal blur takes care of antialiasing and avoiding ugly jittering caused by the tiny bumps in the normals. The focal blur also blurs the shadow in such a way that the light source seems to be an area light, which it isn't. Older versions of this image included, it took at about a day of experimenting to get this result.
