TITLE: retro NAME: Felix Rust COUNTRY: Germany EMAIL: felix@phasenraum.de TOPIC: Music COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: retro.jpg ZIPFILE: retro.zip RENDERER USED: POV-Ray 3.6 (Linux) TOOLS USED: POV-Ray, Gimp, pencil and paper RENDER TIME: 1 hours 51 minutes 57 seconds (6717 seconds) HARDWARE USED: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+ (for final rendering) IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Hear it like in the good old times, but look like you're from tomorrow... Music today, if not performed live, has to be listened to via iPod, of course. But the idea is not really new, it's just a modern walkman. I wondered who was its predecessor, and ended up with these tiny music boxes. And since a fascinating aspect of raytracing is the possibility to create non existing objects photorealistically, at best, I just merged old and new to create a modern looking old instrument. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Unfortunately, I am pretty busy at the moment and could not care for a nice scene, textures, camera settings, radiosity and proper lightning after I finished with creating the iPodRetro. But since it was designed for the IRTC I submitted it anyway. Hope you have fun with it. All objects are CSG. Loops where used to create the gear wheels, nipples and these vibrating metal things. The textures are very simple POV-Ray textures, some of them with reflections enabled, and GIMP-made png pictures mapped on surfaces. Two lengthy area lights. Created entirely with open source software. Note: I accidently deleted some files after rendering, the restored textures file may contain slightly different textures for the brown folders in the background than in the submitted picture.
