TITLE: Turtle Crossing NAME: DungBeatle COUNTRY: USA EMAIL: dungbeatle@mail.tds.net WEBPAGE: None TOPIC: Light and Fog COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: trtlxing.jpg RENDERER USED: Megapov 1.21 TOOLS USED: Spatch, PSP 6.0 RENDER TIME: 3 days HARDWARE USED: PIV 2.4GHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Turtles are struggling to survive in this modern world. Road mortality kills females disproportionately on overland nesting movements. Some species of turtles are unable to reproduce until 30 years old or so. Once a female reaches maturity, she may need to cross many roads adjacent to the wetland in order to reach an area she feels is suitable (warm and sunny) for laying eggs. Unfortunately, most road designs fail to take this into consideration. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The rocks were made in Spatch. The trees are meshes I created in Pov SDL. The road and the water on the road are isosurfaces. The bushes are also meshes made in Pov SDL.The signpost and guard rail are more meshes made in Pov SDL. The clouds are emitting media. The fog is scattering media with a bit of absorption. There is a land mass below everything that is a height field, but you really can't see it here. The only light in the picture are the two headlights, which are very tight spotlights. The turtles are blob macros so I can make them each a little different, like positioning the legs and neck/head.
