TITLE: A Day in the Life of a House Fly NAME: Neil Alexander COUNTRY: Canada EMAIL: stoker@sympatico.ca WEBPAGE: none TOPIC: Life COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. MPGFILE: nalife.mpg RENDERER USED: 3D Studio MAX 2.5 TOOLS USED: CMPeg CREATION TIME: 3 months HARDWARE USED: Pentium 2 233MHz ANIMATION DESCRIPTION: A fly ponders the meaning of life. VIEWING RECOMMENDATIONS: I find that the Windows media player (newer version - you can download it from microsoft.com) works fine. This animation is meant to be played at 24 frames per second. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: Lots of frustration, difficulty, and setbacks. This was my first attempt at animation using 3D Studio Max. I have been teaching myself over the past six months, but I really learned a lot over the coarse of making this animation. Since I didn't use POV to make this animation, I won't go into too much detail about technical aspects of how this animation was made; anyone wishing to know more may feel free to email me. Most of the textures are procedural, and not much different from how I would have created them in POV. 3D Studio did allow me greater control over certain motions which would have been hard to replicate with POV, and allowed me to use motion blur, but I found that there wasn't really that much that would have been impossible to do with POV. Anyway, I'm glad to be back in the contest after a long absence. I almost didn't finish in time (it's the morning of the 15th as I write this, and I have just finished my final rendering), and there are a number of things I would have improved on, given the time. But, be that as it may, I have finished, and I hope you like it.
