HARDWARE USED: K6-2 @ 300MHz, 96 Megs of RAM ANIMATION DESCRIPTION: Rosie's idea for a film topic doesn't quite make sense. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: I typed out a bunch of scene code, rendered the frames, and slapped them together with an MPEG compiler, just like I always do. I modified the Domo model slightly. I first had his messages displayed on a cylinder that was revealed by raising his dome. Then I got the idea of projecting them as you can see in the animation. A spherical mapping is needed for this kind of projection, although it is projected onto a cylindrical surface. Since the official POV-Ray release does not support the use of image_maps in density statements, I migrated over to MegaPov. Domo's jet rings' independent motion was part of the model in the last round, but it wasn't moving in a way that would show it off in that round. The effect was actually quite simple to implement. The banking that Domo makes is based on some rather simple integral calculus designed to simulate not only smooth motion, but smooth changes in acceleration.
