MPGFILE: head.mpg RENDERER USED: Maxon Cinema4D CE6 TOOLS USED: TMPGEnc RENDER TIME: 9 Hours HARDWARE USED: AMD Duron 1.1GHz 1GB RAM ANIMATION DESCRIPTION: This evolved from an idea of a head-hunting alien who has been visiting the home planets of various creatures from 1950's atomic-age flying saucer movies and has one head left to collect. The aim of the modelling was to create things similar enough to spot the reference without being direct copies. The films I had in mind were: Forbidden Planet, This Island Earth and The Day the Earth Stood Still, with a bit of Flash Gordan and some 50's Earth technology thrown in. The scenes were set out for compositing but render times were short enough not to bother in the end. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS ANIMATION WAS CREATED: All the modelling was done in C4D. Most things are NURBS except for the humans and landscapes which are tweaked C4D meshes. The Earth texture is the NASA Blue Marble from http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/BlueMarble/. All animation is keyframed except for some saucer movements which are scripted. The alien mouth is done by point-level animation on the NURBS cage. The frames were rendered uncompressed at 320x192 with antialiasing. TMPGEnc was used to encode the mpeg.
