Title : Disk Network Artist : Joel R. Cheves Rendering Time : 14 hours, 20 minutes * 486 DX-40 Programs Used : Povray2, PovCad, & DeluxePaintII-enhanced The basic locations for the disks, cylinders, clip planes, and torus for the disk drive and internet input/output were generated by PovCad. I created the backdrop by wrapping "tilebl2.gif" around a sphere. The image_map pcx was created with DeluxePaintII-enhanced. Through trial and error(!!) I positioned the camera in numerous places to arrive at a view that I thought was interesting. After establishing camera location and looks_at points, I translated the entire diskdrive and network parts along this path (using PovCad) and tweeked these elements to their final location. I then established light sources. Next, I added the pool and let PovRay2 take it from there. Finally, as an experienced 2d graphic designer, and a novice tracer, let me add this; as a result of my endeavors in this 3d world, I have noticed that I "look" at my surroundings with "new eyes" and my perception of spacial interactions has been tremendously enhanced. Thanks to all of you who have introduced me to this world: My "Universe" has been expanded!
