Raytracing Competition -October 95 Author: David Roman Kominek Title: The Mansion Backyard Date: start (design): October 1 finish (design): Octover 19 raytracer: POV-Ray 2.2 modeller: mostly text editor but some Moray and ctds data was used but mostly a pencil, a ruler and paper! e-mail: lobo@matrix.infomatch.com total rendering time: 2 days 3 hours 37 minutes on a 75MHz Pentium with antialiasing set to 0.1 and Jitter at 1.0 Most of the idea for this house came from out of my head, some help I got from a magazine. Involved in the development of this scene was a lot of trial and error, since this is my first real POV-Ray scene. Switching from Polyray ( which is what I've been using before ) was really easier than I thought. About the scene, it started with the pool. At first I thought of just making the water reflective and non-transparent but then you wouldn't be able to see the floor tiles on the bottom of the pool. This was really hard to get just the right water texture but after a couple days of manual tweaking to the texture I got pretty darn close to the real thing ( maybe less reflection ?). The beachballs was an idea I got from Dan Farmer's old pool.pov scene. Then the rest was easy except for the stairs which I had to make look in the same style as the rest of the railing. But what I like most about the scene is the area lighing. Even though the grill-type covering over the walkway on the left is not visible the shadows well indicate the it's there on the wall. That's about all I can say about the scene. Happy Tracing., David Roman Kominek Lobo@matrix.infomatch.com :)
