Title: Style Clash Artist: Stig M. Valstad, J›s†s, N-7620 Skogn, Norway stigv@interlink.no Hardware: Computer: 486DX2-66, 8MB RAM Scanner: Umax UC 630 (scanning of background) Software: Renderer: Polyray v. 1.7 Image Editor: Picture Publisher v. 5.0 Text Editor: Q v. 3.0 Rendering time: Main image: 12h 27m 15s Inset: 28m 49s Files: style_cl.txt; this file style_cl.jpg; the image style_cl.arj; the style_cl.pi file and hill.gif height field. This scene was entirely handcoded, which makes for smaller and more comprehensible source code + I like to work that way. The main image was traced at 1280 x 960 pixels without anti_aliasing and reduced to 640 x 480 using Picture Publishers SmartSizing, which has the same effect as anti-aliasing but works better for narrow lines (starting with 1920 x 1440 would be even better, but would have taken to much time [more than 24h]). The small inset was traced in the normal way using adaptive anti-aliasing. The grass was made more realistic using color noise and motion blur, while the gravel road was made more realistic using add noise. I intended to use roof tiling made of short cylinders, but that turned out to demand to much memory. I have left the definitions in the .pi file in case anyone with lots of RAM wants to try it. (Anybody got a couple of 16 MB SIMMs to spare?)
