I like your picture quite a bit in terms of concept and such.  I think that by fiddling with the finishes on the objects it would look better.  Specifically adding some degree of reflection to the water, and making the waves more pronounced (the normals, not the tidal wave).  Also adding bumps or dents or something and reflection to the robot might help as well.  Ditto for the sand.  Cool picture!

artistic.  In a sense, this is artistic in a cyber-sort of way, but I'm not

Very enjoyable theme!  The reason I rated you low on artistic merit is because
(I think) the use of textures is too little developped, though I like the use 
of the gold.
