JPGFILE: daedalus.jpg RENDERER USED: Strata StudioPro/Blitz 1.75+ Raytracer TOOLS USED: Strata StudioPro/Blitz 1.75+ Modeller, Fractal Design Poser 1.0, The Virtual Grove 1.0, Photoshop 3.0.5 for textures RENDER TIME: 05 32 24 HARDWARE USED: PowerMac 8500/120 with 80M RAM, 200M Virtual RAM IMAGE DESCRIPTION: In this picture, a latter-day Daedalus takes flight. I wanted to create an image that spoke to the two most powerful meanings of the word Flight; escape, and sailing through the air. Flight is all about freedom (whether it be from incarceration or gravity), and therefore joy. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The figure of Daedalus himself was born in Fractal Design Poser 1.0. It was exported as a DXF file into Strata, where it was smoothed and then manually tweaked in the vertex editor. The wings were created separately in the Strata modeller. The trees were created using a program I wrote for the Macintosh called "The Virtual Grove." It's kinda pre-release still, but it outputs trees (with or without leaves) in POVRAY or DXF formats. The rest of the scene was created manually in the Strata modeller. Some of the textures are NOT original: - the stone of the landscape is based on a heavily-Photoshopped version of a stone picture that once lived on the Avalon 3D site. - A few of the standard Strata textures may have been used... I'd be happy to share the model file with anyone who requests it. ___Samuel___
