TITLE: Flight of Stairs NAME: Theodorich Kopetzky COUNTRY: Austria EMAIL: theo@tk.uni-linz.ac.at WEBPAGE: http://www.tk.uni-linz.ac.at 80/~theo/ray/ TOPIC: Flight COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. JPGFILE: tkstairs.jpg ZIPFILE: tkstairs.zip RENDERER USED: PovRay 3.00e TOOLS USED: Moray 2.5 for modeling Photoshop 3.0 to insert my logo RENDER TIME: approx. 78 hours HARDWARE USED: Pentium 133 MHz IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Another interpretation of flight is that of a stair flight. So I tried to model the staircase of the architect Otto Wagner (era of Art Nouveau if memory serves me well). The real staircase can be viewed at the "Postsparkasse" (a savings-bank in an post office) in Vienna/Austria. It has been built from 1904 to 1912. The stairs does not look the same as the original but it resembles it quite well. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: The picture was modelled using Moray 2.5. The construction was mainly done with the orbit function of this great modeller and lots of objects (more then 1200 spheres for the railing alone). No fancy technique was used to model the scene and even all texture are pretty standard. This is my second entry for the competition and I'm still pretty new to the field of ray tracing. The long rendering time of the image results from using atmospheric effects and anti aliasing, I think... Source: For those interested I'm providing the source. Feel free to use it as long as you mention me and send me an e-mail (maybe with an URL, so that I can take a look at your picture). The .mdl file for moray is here, too, but be warned: I used a lot of objects to model that scene.
