Due to lack of a supercomputer, I decided to take some poetic justice with this contest's topic. ;) To stay on topic, the subject of this image is an old, battered window. Too many things in ray-tracing look perfect and brand new. I purposely created a cracked and chipping paint to remove this stereotype. Inside the window is a desk, complete with a desk lamp, a day planner, and various other items. Outside in the cold winter weather, snow is falling gently, adding to the already-accumulated layer on the ground. If you look closely, you can see the reflection of a frozen leafless tree on the window. This image was originally intended to feature a man gazing out of the window, deep in thought (providing double meaning for the title "Reflections"). Maybe in the future I'll have the time and ability to model a good person to finish the image. DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: This image was modelled with Moray 2.5. The height fields for the battered windowsill were created in Paint Shop Pro. Two scenes were created for this image: the inside and the outside. The two scenes were prefected separately (to minimize testing time) and then merged together for the final rendering. The individual objects are simple CSG objects, with the exception of the desk lamp, which is a complex CSG object. ;) The icicles are blobs created with Blob Sculptor 1.0. The shingles are made up of a number of cylinders with a layered gradient texture. Speaking of textures, some of the textures are heavily modified versions of the textures included in Moray, while the others are original textures created just for this image. I am especially fond of the frosted glass texture. The snow on the window sill is an attenuating halo with turbulence. In place of the image map for the outdoor background, I've included the .POV and .INC files required to re-create the image. The tree is a modified version of Paul Dawson's tree INC file.
